The Queen … (of Parts)

It was February 2017. I had already spent hundreds of hours combing through (and saving) dozens of Sisterlocks™ pictures to lust over; official hair porn. I needed to figure out how to manage my 18+ inches of hair. I was die-hard team natural, but something had to give. I called one. Two. Three. And four consultants. And then there was her. The Queen. The Sisterlocks™ Diva. The Queen of Parts. Whatever you call her – you better put some respect on her name.
I am so thankful that the universe saw fit for this beautiful woman to lead me toward loc’d bliss. Thank you, Sister — you are so appreciated.
Angel! I am so happy to have you here! Tell us a little about yourself!
Hello! My name is Angel. I am married, a mother of three (3), and a Full-time Sisterlocks™ Consultant. When I am not doing hair, I love to work out, travel, and do nothing when possible.
Becoming one of the most sought-after consultants—what’s your journey?
“Highly sought after”…not even, but I appreciate that! My journey was unexpected and not something I planned. I was a stay-at-home mom who wanted to return to the workforce… I took the Sisterlocks Course in 2012 and have grown my business since. Best decision I could’ve made for myself and my family.
How many installs? How big is your clientele?
I have not counted the number of installs I have done. At last count, I had 124. Clients move, transfer, cut their hair, or self-maintain, so that number can fluctuate.
Most challenging client—how did you handle it?
I have pretty awesome clients that rarely bring challenges. But there was one client I had to let go due to religious constraints and scheduling conflicts at my home studio. Boundaries matter—now I ensure expectations are clear up front.
How do you prioritize your own hair health while serving others?
I’m very low-maintenance: wash and retighten. I used to keep a regular schedule with help from my mom and daughter (also a consultant). Now I go by feel—when the new growth says time, I get it done.
Consultations & communication—how do you align with clients?
I’m easygoing. During consultations I ask/answer questions and walk through policies. I don’t require or expect much—clarity keeps things smooth.
“Locs are no-maintenance” is a myth. What do you advise?
Less is more. Keep hair clean, separated, and use minimal products and manipulation for long, healthy growth.
How did social media grow your business?
I started by posting my own locs on Facebook and in loc groups. Once I created an Instagram and showed my work (and my hair), things took off. People love pictures—most clients find me via social.
Share a creative problem-solve from your chair.
A transfer client once came from someone untrained in Sisterlocks™ with loose hair, knots, and holes. It took unconventional techniques and time, but we restored her locs beyond where she started.
Making long sessions comfortable—what’s your approach?
I work from home, so safety and comfort are priorities. I share my family dynamics and keep the environment respectful. We spend hours together; over time, genuine relationships form.
Do personal/pro boundaries ever get tricky?
Not really. My clients respect me as a small business owner. Boundaries are honored.
Your personal Sisterlocks™ journey?
Best decision ever. I’ve kept up maintenance, wash when needed, and otherwise leave it alone. I used to curl when shorter, but now it’s not worth the effort—one braid at night, detangle in the morning, and go.
Fitness & motivation with a busy schedule—how?
Results motivate me. After a busy period derailed my routine, I rebuilt with a home gym and Peloton (Bike, Tread+, Rower). Standing and styling takes a toll; training and eating well keeps me going.
Advice for new consultants?
Get a mentor. After the course, it can feel overwhelming. Having my mom and sister guide me was everything.
Top 3 things clients should seek in a consultant
- Professionalism
- Clean & safe environment
- Quality, consistent work
Last trip?
Montego Bay, Jamaica—invited to a client’s wedding. We made it a family trip for my daughter Zariah’s birthday. Pure joy.
Time management while keeping life in balance?
My clients care for their hair, so chair-time stays consistent. I buffer breaks, and I’ve learned to take more time off to avoid burnout.
What do you love most about working with Black women?
Their joy—after an install, and as their hair flourishes over years. Many are Boss women; witnessing their journeys is an honor.
